A New Approach to Implementing Strategy in Law Firms
April 9, 2013
At the 2013 LMA Annual Conference, Mary K Young, Partner, Zeughauser Group, will moderate a panel discussion focused on a new approach to implementing strategy in law firms — a position dedicated to strategy
Three panelists, all of whom are in dedicated strategic roles for prominent law firms, will discuss their positions and how they work with marketing and business development. Law firms have added these positions to help them achieve the firm’s strategic objectives, which may include maximizing profitability, strategic client programs, recruiting, mergers and acquisitions, project management, or pricing. Legal marketers are typically engaged in developing and implementing strategy as well, so understanding this role is important. In addition, these roles may represent an alternative career path for legal marketers.
The panel will discuss the in-house strategic role and how it relates to the marketing and business development functions. Topics to be covered include:
o Why some law firms have embraced a separate strategic function
o How the strategy function partners with marketing and business development
o Skills and experience necessary to be successful in a strategic role
o The business need for a dedicated strategic function in a law firm
